Above is a map view of the itinerary for my 4 week “About the World Trip – 2014” (only India required a visa). My first landing is Dubai, United Arab Emirates (my first trip to the Middle East), where I will spend a week with my brother Steve, while he does business. Then I am on to Varanasi, India, the oldest city in the world, famous for its ghats (stairs leading down to the Ganges river, including one exclusive for cremation). From there I will do a short visit to the temples of Khajuraho, India, return to Delhi, only to take a flight to Kathmandu, Nepal – the country of the Himalayas, where I will also spend a couple days.
I round out my trip with a few days in my favorite city, Paris, France, then a couple days in London (rented a room in a flat in the West End using airbnb) to see the play, Perfect Nonsense, with my longtime friend Noureddine from Morocco.
I am hoping to start my new novel on this trip – at least get a lot of good atmosphere and research first hand – though work pressures (programming web and mobile stuff) is going to cut into my fun.
